Calling all Film, Music, and Editing Enthusiasts!
This Friday, April 13th, is the start of the Spring 2018 Editing Challenge! This is a great opportunity for you to test your editing skills. Film student, Max Kane shot footage for an indie musician and is challenging you to create the music video! The challenge will run from April 13th-May 1st.
If you are interested, please stop by the Film Club meeting on Friday, April 13th at 12:00pm in the Marts Production Studio to hear more about the project! If you can’t make the meeting and are still interested, please reach out to either myself or Max (emails at the bottom)!
Here’s a message from Max about the project and intended goal of the challenge:
“Thank you for your consideration to participate in the Bucknell Editing Challenge! Karl Hoegstedt, an indie musician from West Chester, PA, asked me to shoot a music video for him last summer. I spent 3 days obtaining footage using a Blackmagic Pocket, DJI Osmo, Parrot Bebop Drone, and GoPro. I captured about 3 hours of footage overall.
I am making the song and footage available for any student interested in participating. While I did have a story in mind while shooting, it does not need to be followed whatsoever. The only rule is that participants must only use the footage provided. Footage can be shared on GoogleDrive or I can transfer it directly to you via hard drive.
This is a great opportunity for any student interested in film or music production. This challenge gives students the unique chance to master their editing and color grading skills. I highly encourage creativity – use whatever effect you desire and do not feel constrained to the story. A huge benefit of the challenge is the winner will be credited as the editor of “Void’s” official music video. I am also currently working on getting a screening of the video to be shown at the Campus Theatre!
Below is the story I had in mind while shooting:
The story revolves around two lovers – a girl and a boy. The girl passes away and begins her ride to the afterlife (signified by her sitting shotgun in a retro 1969 Spyder convertible with a blind driver). The boy is left alone. He watches from a riverbank as his lifeless lover floats down the stream. He sees the red convertible pass and he chases it. All of a sudden, he is inside the car (presumably killed himself to be with his lover). They drive into the countryside and stop at an endless cornfield. Karl walks out of the field and leads the lovers in, beginning a psychedelic light show.
